Conway Wall Painting
This project aimed to develop a derelict area and long boundary wall of Conway Street, facing Conway Mill.
The colourful mural, on a previously graffiti-covered wall in Conway Street, takes its inspiration from The Sky by Holywood poet and artist Tom Kerr, and particularly the line, 'this is my sky, I will share it with you'.
The piece, by artist Daniela Balmaverde, aims to celebrate the identity of the local community in a positive and creative way, by presenting a vision of a safer and happier future.
It was developed in conjunction with a number of local community organisations, including an Over 50s group from Tar Anall and young people from An Munia Tober.
Born in Italy, Daniela Balmaverde studied at the College of Art in Turin in 1998. She went on to study in Holland (Groningen) and at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin, where she graduated in 2003 with a BA (First Class) in Stage Design.
Daniela has been living in Northern Ireland since 2005. She has been commissioned to create pieces of art including public art, community arts, portraits, paintings and sculptures. Her work is in many private collections in Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Canada and Northern Ireland.
